Alaska Heritage Resources Survey: Arctic Valley Ski Area Site Description
Part of the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Resources project
Author(s): Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson
Year: 2011
Summary
The Arctic Valley Ski Area includes the original location chosen by the Anchorage Ski Club and the US Army in the early 1940s and the adjacent location the Anchorage Ski Club moved to in 1952 to the north. When civilian skier use of the area exceeded the limits of the existing infrastructure, the Anchorage Ski Club moved up the valley and built its own lodge and rope tows. Remains of ski infrastructure is still present in the original Arctic Valley Ski Area. This document includes a site description of the Arctic Valley Ski Area.
