This historical study is an account of Alaska's Cold War years. It focuses on the Soviet aircraft intercept activities from 1961 when the first recorded intercept was made, until the end of 1991. The Alaskan NORAD Region, because of its adjacent location to the former Soviet Union, has had more Soviet aircraft intercepts conducted in its area than any other NORAD region.
