After the passage of what is known as the Reclamation Act, approved June 17, 1902, the people of Salt River Valley made very earnest efforts to induce the Secretary of the Interior to authorize the construction of the Salt River Project. They were successful in these efforts and the project was tentatively authorized by the Secretary on March 12, 1903.
