Archaeological clearance survey for five tower sites, two sheave sites, and four facility access roads was conducted for Sandia National Laboratories in conjunction with the Aerial Cable Site on Kirkland Air Force Base in Bernalillo County, New Mexico. A Class I survey performed on July 11, 1994 indicated 29 previously recorded sites located within 1.0 mi (1.6 km) of the survey routes. Fourteen sites were shown to be located near the transmission line corridor, with four of these within the right-of-way. Undertaken between July 14 and 19, 1994, the Class III survey of the route included a 100 ft (30 m) wide corridor with a 150 x 150 ft ( 46 x 46 m) area examined around each structure. Cultural Resources Inventory of a 17,428 ft (5,312 m), 328 ft (100 m) corridor centered on the extant ID 46 kV powerline located a total of 18 archaeological sites and 17 isolated occurrences. Sites include 10 newly recorded sites and eight previously recorded sites. Class I site file searches had indicated that as many as 21 previously recorded sites might occur within the project corridor. These searches also revealed that considerable confusion existed as to site location and condition....

Mariah Associates, Inc. completed a Class III Cultural Resource Inventory for a gravel quarry located on Kirtland Air Force Base, Bernalillo County, New Mexico. The survey was requested by Wayne Frasier of Mountain States Constructors, Inc. A cultural resources survey was done on 36 acres for a proposed powerline on the Military Withdrawal for Sandia National Laboratories portion of Cibola National Forest. The area had been surveyed in previous years and this survey was done to ensure that known sites would not be damaged. Five areas were identified where caution should be applied in completing this project: The entire underground portion of the powerline should be monitored white being excavated. A project to construct a powerline and communication line to serve the Department of Defense High Energy Research and Technology Facility (HERTF) Site was found to be out of compliance viz, construction having been initiated prior to obtaining Cultural Clearance. A cultural resources survey was done on approximately 15 acres. Two prehistoric sites and one historic site were encountered for which project plans were changed to avoid. Cultural resources clearance is recommended.
