The fire and resultant containment measures resulted in the burning of approximately 125 acres and creation of a .7 mile long road. Five archaeological sites were impacted by these actions.

On 19 May 99, Rick Crow and Rick Chandler met with Reagan Giese at the Geo-Marine office in El Paso, Texas. The meeting was held to discuss the Archeological Survey scheduled of the Melrose Air Force Range. It was discovered during the meeting that the survey accomplished in 1981 by Geoscientific Systems was not accepted by the State Historic Preservation Officer. On May 8 and 9, 1990, a reconnaissance level archeological survey was conducted by National Park Service personnel for a proposed land acquisition at Scott Air Force Base. The 55-acre parcel is intended for a dormitory/dining hall facility. No cultural resources were identified during the archeological investigations and no further work is recommended.
