The goal of the project described here was to document all graffiti, both historic and contemporary, as a means of preservation. The building is scheduled to undergo a major renovation which will effectively destroy any remnants of the building’s past. On the graffiti-covered desks and walls of the eighth through eleventh floors of the University of Notre Dame Hesburgh Library lies a study in duality—highly public expressions of students’ most private thoughts.
