PHYTOLITH ANALYSIS OF FOUR LATE WOODLAND SHERDS, 47MT71, WISCONSIN (2001)
Four ceramic sherds recovered from site 47MT71 located along the northeastern shore of Green Bay in Wisconsin were processed to recover phytoliths that might inform concerning the foods cooked in the vessels represented by these sherds. This site was occupied during the Late Woodland (ca. AD 660-860). At the time of contact this area was occupied by the Menominee Indians, also known as the Wild Rice People. Wild rice glumes produce phytoliths that are identifiable, so phytolith analysis was...

Preliminary results from two Late Woodland trash pits from Block Island, Rhode Island (2016)
In the summer of 2015 an archaeological dig was conducted, as part of a salvage project due to new construction, at RI-2451 on Block Island, Rhode Island. A pre-Columbian Native American habitation area was identified near the shoreline of the Great Salt Pond, a large and almost enclosed body of water separating the north and south regions of Block Island. The pond has a small channel, artificially dug in the late 1800s, on its northwest shore to connect it with the Block Island Sound. The...

When combined with recent terrestrial LIDAR...
Tool manufacture and bone breakage patterns at a Haudenosaunee site in New York (2016)

Recovered fauna include a generous range of local species, including mammals, birds,...
The Uses of Platform-Mound Summits at a Coles Creek Site in Southwest Mississippi (2015)
Excavations at Feltus (Jefferson County, Mississippi) have yielded considerable evidence on how the summits of platform mounds constructed during the middle Coles Creek period (AD 900-1100) were used. These summits showed multiple veneers of black and yellow sediments, portions of which were heavily burned. Also present were small pits that may have been votive deposits, as well as large, bathtub-shaped cooking pits. The summits were kept clean, but dense middens accumulated on their flanks....
Villages, Horticulture, and the Narragansett: Native American Settlement and Resource Exploitation along the Southern Rhode Island Coast ca. 1300-1400 AD. (2016)
The Salt Pond archaeological site was identified during environmental review planning for a proposed residential subdivision in the 1980s. Continued multi-disciplinary study of this culturally significant place has provided a wealth of new information on the late pre-contact environment, Native American village...
