The remains of the original 190-mile Las Vegas and Tonopah historic railroad alignment begin north of Las Vegas and end in Goldfield. The rail service began in downtown Las Vegas. Silver Flag Alpha Range Survey, Nellis Air Force Base Including Research for the Las Vegas & Tonopah Railroad (2010)
Three research questions were addressed. Two were related to the historic events surrounding the LV&T Railroad, specifically with regards to the presence or absence of the Hell on Wheels phenomenon and the standardizations of sidings. The third research question was related to the prehistoric use of the area, addressing possible areas of agave or yucca stock processing.

This report details Far Western’s findings, including the results of 1,730 acres of archaeological inventory conducted in 28 randomly selected sample survey units. A total of 56 new archaeological sites were recorded, and two previously recorded sites were updated. The survey also recorded 87 isolated artifacts or features.
