Nellis Air Force Base (NAFB) contracted with the University of Montana, Center for Integrated Research (UM CIRE), in November 2016, to complete a cultural resource survey and technical report describing the results of a Section 106 archaeological inventory of approximately 3,300 acres of Range 71, on NAFB managed lands in Nye County, Nevada, which commenced in 2015.

The Nellis AFR Low Elevation Stratified Sample inventory was conducted in low areas of the range where most mission-related activities occur. This study, which was performed in accordance with Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act, had the following goals: 1) characterize the prehistoric cultural resources of low elevation areas on the range; and 2) use this information to construct a model for identifying areas of low to high potential for cultural remains.
