Two phases of a Class II survey for cultural resources on 9,940 acres at the Melrose Air Force Range (MAFR), including geomorphic assessment, oral history interviews and archival research, were performed for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on behalf of the USAF, for the development of a cultural resource management plan for MAFR. Site Report for LA 57430. Previously described as a 70 x 25 m burned caliche and lithic scatter with one feature. Site LA 57430 was originally documented as occurring on a level alluvial plain with a two-track road and cattle trails running through it. But, LA 57430 could not be located with the present day investigation, so therefore the eligibility of this site for the NRHP remains undetermined.

Site Report for LA 57430. The general landform for this site is a general slope. This caliche scatter with associated lithics is situated on a gentle northeast trending slope south of a natural basin, which intermittently might have functioned as a playa.
