POLLEN ANALYSIS OF GROUNDSTONE FROM THE MAGIC MOUNTAIN SITE (5JF223), COLORADO (1996)

Samples representing groundstone washes and soil controls from the Magic Mountain site, 5JF223, were examined for their pollen content. Levels from which these groundstone were removed yielded radiocarbon ages between 1620 +60 BP and 2890 + 70 BP. Pollen analysis was intended to provide information concerning plants ground using these pieces of groundstone, and therefore insight into subsistence practices of the occupants of the Magic Mountain site.

Samples from features at the Magic Mountain site, 5JF223, in north-central Colorado were examined for pollen and macrofloral remains. Two features were identified as Early Ceramic possible structures, with other features dating between 1220 + 70 BP and 1070 + BP. Pollen and macrofloral analyses are used to provide information concerning plants available to and possibly utilized by the occupants of this site.
