In 1969 the Salt River Project contracted the Museum of Northern Arizona (MNA) to excavate the prehistoric and ethnohistoric remains in the vicinity of the Navajo Generating Station (Page, Arizona), along the Black Mesa-Lake Powell railroad corridor, and in the immediate vicinity of the coal loading facility at the east end of the rail line south of Navajo National Monument.
