Sherds from two ceramic vessels with visible residue from the Metz site (33ER557) were submitted for phytolith, starch, organic residue (FTIR), and x-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The Metz site, 33ER557, is located in Erie County, Ohio. Previous work by PaleoResearch Institute examined an Esch Plain variety Red Slip vessel, a collection of sherds from another ceramic vessel, a grooved and an ungrooved celt, a slate disc, and a ceramic pipe (Yost et al 2013). Further work at the Metz site revealed bog iron.
