XRD, XRF, AND RADIOCARBON DATE ANALYSES OF SAMPLES FROM THE METZ SITE 33ER557, ERIE COUNTY, OHIO

Summary
The Metz site, 33ER557, is located in Erie County, Ohio. Previous work by PaleoResearch Institute examined an Esch Plain variety Red Slip vessel, a collection of sherds from another ceramic vessel, a grooved and an ungrooved celt, a slate disc, and a ceramic pipe (Yost et al 2013). Further work at the Metz site revealed bog iron. Several samples of bog iron were submitted for elemental analysis using XRF, one for XRD analysis, and recovery of charcoal from two of the bog iron samples for AMS radiocarbon dating.
