At the request of the New Mexico State Highway and Transportation Department (NMSHTD, which became the New Mexico Department of Transportation—NMDOT— on July 1, 2003), the Office of Archaeological Studies undertook data recovery excavations at LA 24 in an area where NMDOT proposed to remove portions of a midden to improve the line of sight on an unimproved road leading to a church and a residential area.
