Clifty Creek Reservoir Area 1973-1974
Part of: US Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District VCP
The USACE, Louisville District obtained the collection through an archaeological survey of land potentially affected by the proposed Clifty Creek reservoir project in Bartholomew County (12B) and Decatur (12DE) County, Indiana. The Clifty Creek reservoir involved the construction of one or more dams on the Clifty Creek and Fall Fork to provide flood control and recreational facilities. Curtis Tomak accomplished the survey during the fall and winter of 1973-1974 under contract from the National Park Service. In and close to the reservoir the survey located new sites 12B25—12B84 and 12DE7—12DE19. Previously, in 1968, Claude White of Indiana University surveyed twenty-five sites 12B2-12B 22 and 12DE2-12DE 5 in or close to the reservoir. The two fore mentioned surveys constitute the total archeological work to have been done in that area up until that time (Tomak 1974).
The digital materials in this collection were processed by the Veterans Curation Program (VCP) and include the artifact database, select artifact photographs, artifact report, investigation report, finding aid, oversized material database, and scanned asset key. Additional digital materials held by the VCP include additional artifact photographs, budget transfer request, correspondence, field notes, interdepartmental communication, mail receipts, progress report, and statements of account.
