Patoka Lake Excavations (12DU7 and 12DU8) 1976
Part of: US Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District VCP
This collection is referred to as “Patoka Lake Excavations (12DU7 and 12DU8) 1976.” This name is consistent throughout the finding aid, the file folders, and the box labels. The extent of this collection is two and a half (2.5) linear inches. The Patoka Lake Excavations (12DU7 and 12DU8) 1976 collection was contained in a grey, acid-free box that was inside an acidic box along with one other document collection, which was the Patoka Lake Salvage Excavations 1980 collection. Due to the small size of the Patoka Lake Excavations (12DU7 and 12DU8) 1976 collection and the extensive size of the Patoka Lake Salvage Excavations 1980 collection, it was originally thought that the two collections represented a single investigation. On further examination, the processing archivist realized that the investigations were different, and therefore were processed separately. The collection condition for Patoka Lake Excavations (12DU7 and 12DU8) 1976 was good. Overall, the documents required only slight mending and cleaning. For the field notes, which were also received in good condition, minor mending and cleaning were required on several of the thin sheets. Additional materials were sent as a later date and incorporated into the collection. These included administrative documents, additional copies of the final report, and correspondence related to the final report. There were several documents removed from this collection. Four photographs and two rows of negatives were removed from this collection to a photography storage folder. Two of the photographs were labeled as 12DU7 and the other two were labeled as 12DU8. This collection included four oversized materials. One item was a hand drawn site plan map of the Kitchen Rock Cave, 12DU7. The map was humidified, flattened, labeled, and stored with other oversized materials. The other three sheets were part of an administrative booklet on general provisions of the Professional Services contract. Staples were removed from the booklet, and the document was flattened and placed in oversized storage.
The digital materials in this collection were processed by the Veteran’s Curation Program (VCP), and include archival photographs, finding aid, original investigation report, oversized materials spreadsheet, photographic materials spreadsheet, and scanned asset key. Additional digital materials held by the VCP include budget documents, contracts, correspondence, document folder listing, maps, oversized material labels, progress reports, records removal sheet, and sketches. For additional information on these materials, refer to the finding aid.
