The Transformation of Historical Archaeology: Papers in Honor of Charles E Orser, Jr
Part of: Society for Historical Archaeology 2019
This collection contains the abstracts of the papers presented in the session entitled "The Transformation of Historical Archaeology: Papers in Honor of Charles E Orser, Jr," at the 2019 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology.
Charles Orser is this year’s J. C. Harrington Award recipient. This session recognizes the themes, theoretical paradigms, and "haunting" contexts by which he transformed the direction and tenor of historical archaeology. Former students and colleagues will reflect on Charles Orser’s breadth of experience and influence on the field: African American and plantation archaeology in the U.S. South and Caribbean; historical archaeology in Brazil, Belize, Ireland, England; historical archaeology in the middle Mississippi valley, Louisiana, Maryland, New York, and Utah; and Marxian theoretical approaches, historical materialism, racialization studies, practice theory, multiscalar analysis, network theory, public archaeology, and commemoration of the past.
