Part of: Society for Historical Archaeology 2020
This collection contains the abstracts of the papers presented in the session entitled "East Carolina University Partnerships and Innovation with Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency," at the 2020 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology.
East Carolina University’s Program in Maritime Studies is a partner with the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency Partnership and Innovations Directorate. In this position the Program works closely with the agency to carry out its mission, which is to provide the fullest possible accounting for U.S. missing service personnel to their families and the nation. This mission involves the investigation, correlation, excavation, and recovery of sites associated with combat losses of past U.S. conflicts. This work requires ECU to understand and operate within the confines of forensic archaeological protocols of DPAA and contribute new and innovative techniques. This symposium showcases papers on underwater aircraft missions that range from the use of innovative technologies and adaptive applications, to specialized training and community partnerships.
