In October 2016, R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates, Inc. (RCG&A) completed geophysical survey investigations of the Otipoby Comanche Cemetery at Fort Sill Military Reservation. The Otipoby Comanche Cemetery (Otipoby) is on an upland ridge between East Cache and Frisco creeks. It is currently in Fort Sill’s East Range. For this project, investigators undertook geophysical investigations to identify any unmarked burials in and near Otipoby. The first burials at Otipoby took place in the latter part of the 1880s. It was still an active cemetery in 2016; delineating areas where potential unmarked burials are located can help to define areas suitable for future interments. Three geophysical survey instruments were used in this non-destructive survey of Otipoby: a magnetometer, an electrical resistance meter, and a ground-penetrating radar. Investigators collected approximately 2.2 acres of geophysical survey data both inside and along the fence outside of the marked cemetery area.
