Beyond the Shoreline: Heritage at Risk at Inland Sites
Part of: Society for Historical Archaeology 2022
This collection contains the abstracts of the papers presented in the session entitled "Beyond the Shoreline: Heritage at Risk at Inland Sites," at the 2022 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology.
As archaeologists, resources managers, and other heritage professionals have turned their attention to the growing concerns of climate change, much of this work focuses on coastal issues including sea level rise and erosion. However, inland sites are also at risk from a wide variety of climate change impacts and ongoing environmental factors. These sites face threats from increased forest fires, flooding, temperature changes, increased storminess, and more. This session will explore heritage at risk beyond the shoreline, examining impacts and threats to inland sites as well as the strategies for response including documentation and mitigation.
