A Supplemental Investigative Report on Conditions in the North Retaining Wall, William Howard Taft National Historic Site, Cincinnati, Ohio
Author(s): Scruggs and Hammond, Inc.; The Westerly Group, Inc.
Year: 1993
Summary
This report describes the results of a supplemental physical investigation of the extant portions of the north retaining wall at the William Howard Taft National Historic Site. The purpose of the investigation has been to determine, if possible, the extent and condition of remaining historic fabric. The investigation has attempted to enlarge upon the excellent and important work of Mark A. Chavez.
In addition, the investigation has also attempted to evaluate the structural stability of the wall area, including the slopingbank structure, with regard to its ability to maintain integrity, and to serve as an appropriate foundation for any of several proposed wall treatment options. Finally, the purpose of this investigation has been to permit the preparation and evaluation of optional treatment plans for the wall, an effort which was beyond the scope of the Cultural Landscape Report for the site, currently in preparation.
