Summary

An archaeological survey of the proposed PRIME RIBS (Prime Readiness in Base Support) project area, on Lackland Air Force Base Training Annex, Bexar County, Texas has been performed. The cultural resources survey was conducted in compliance with federal and state regulations.

The survey of the 20 acre area consisted of a pedestrian walkover and a stratified subsurface shovel testing strategy. During the survey, a prehistoric archaeological site of unknown temporal affiliation was identified. The site contained chipped stone artifacts, variably spread over the entire 20 acre project area. The stone artifacts consisted of debitage and tools produced from chert and chalcedony. The site represents aboriginal quarrying of natural gravels. The artifacts occur in shallow sedimentary deposits, which have subsequently been disturbed by a variety of modem ground modifications. Because the site lacks depositional integrity, no further archaeological work is recommended.
