A Final Report on the Assessment of Archaeological Collections Stored by Archaeological Services, UMASS Amherst

Summary

This report describes the survey that was undertaken to evaluate the condition of

the archaeological collections housed and curated by Archaeological Services within

the Department of Anthropology of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst

(UMA). It is limited to those collections acquired as a result of state and federally

funded transportation-related projects. While this does not include all

archaeological collections at the UMA facility it does cover the bulk of artifacts in

storage. Separate reports have been prepared for those collections housed at the

Boston Landmarks Commission and the Massachusetts Historical Commission.
