POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT SITE 32MZ233, McKENZIE COUNTY, NORTH DAKOTA

Author(s): Linda J. Scott; PaleoResearch Institute

Year: 1985

Summary

Pollen and macrofloral samples were taken at site 32MZ233, a stone

circle site located McKenzie County, North Dakota. The site is located

within the Missouri Plateau physiographic region along the northern edge of

an upland grassland, which drops sharply to the rugged, eroded breaks of the

Missouri Valley. Rolling grasslands are noted to the south of the site,

while hardwoods and juniper may be observed in the draws. A thin veneer of

glacial sediment overlies the Sentinel Butte geologic formation in this area

(Floodman 1984). Pollen and macro floral analyses at this site were directed

towards the identification of paleoenvironmental conditions, as well as the

recovery of subsistence data from three features.
