POLLEN AND PHYTOLITH ANALYSIS AT THE RAY LONG SITE (39FA65), SOUTH DAKOTA: A FEASIBILITY STUDY
Author(s): Linda J Scott; PaleoResearch Institute; Rhoda O Lewis
Year: 1985
Summary
Pollen and phytolith samples were removed from three components at the
Ray Long Site (39FA63) in southwestern South Dakota. This site is located
within an ephemeral stream sediment sequence deposited by a tributary to the
Cheyenne River in Fall River County. Analysis of the pollen and phytolith
remains was directed towards determining whether continued sampling would
provide data concerning the paleoenvironment. Buried Paleolndian components
represent an Angostura occupation (11,000 BP) and a later McKean occupation
(8950 BP).
