PALYNOLOGICAL, PHYTOLITH, AND MACROFLORAL INVESTIGATIONS

Summary

Very little evidence to reconstruct the paleoenvironment exists for this area of Wyoming. The paleoenvironment may be addressed through several different data bases, including the pollen and phytolith records, which are discussed here. A limited amount of stratigraphic pollen analysis has been completed in this area, from which the paleoenvironment may be interpreted, although no stratigraphic phytolith analysis has been undertaken for this area. Archaeological sites 48FR1468 and 48FR1602, located on the southwest flanks of Green Mountain overlooking Crooks Creek provide the basis for the existing interpretation. Neither site, however, contains an uninterrupted stratigraphic sequence from the Altithermal, approximately 7500 BP, to the present.
