POLLEN ANALYSIS OF AGRICULTURAL DEPOSITS NEAR WEST LOCH, OAHU

Summary

Pollen samples were collected in conjunction with the archaeological

survey of an historic settlement on the edge of West Loch in the flood plain

of the Honouliuli Stream. Pollen samples were collected from trenches

through areas that displayed probable fishpond or pond field sediments.

These locations have been identified with the assistance of both historic

information and examination of the sediments. Pollen analysis was oriented

toward the recovery of pollen types that would indicate what, if any, crops

were grown in these areas.
