POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT SITES 48SWI023 AND 48SW1612
Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings; PaleoResearch Institute
Year: 1989
Summary
Pollen and macrofloral analyses were conducted at 48SWI023 and 48SW1612
to identify paleoenvironmental conditions at the time of occupation, as well
as to determine whether evidence exists for subsistence activities involving
plants. Stratigraphic columns were collected from the present ground
surface to the lowest occupation or one stratum below at each site to
provide data to interpret paleoenvironmental conditions. Cultural materials
at 48SW1023 ranged in age from 6320 to 2750 BP. Cultural material from
48SW1612 represents occupations from 750-1550 BP and 1950 BP. The
stratigraphic pollen record at 48SW1612 represents Medithermal to Recent
deposits, while that at 48SW1023 represents Altithermal/Neoglacial to Recent
deposits.
