POLLEN ANALYSIS AT CDC-7, CANYON DE CHELLY, ARIZONA
Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings; PaleoResearch Institute
Year: 1989
Summary
Six pollen samples were submitted for analysis from a Pueblo I
pitstructure and related sediments in Canyon de Chelly National Monument,
Arizona. This pitstructure had been truncated by an arroyo, but appeared to
have been of "great kiva" proportions, approximating 10 m in diameter.
Pollen samples were collected from a stratigraphic sequence in both
archaeological and nonarchaeological deposits to provide a framework for
comparison of historic and prehistoric deposits. Identification of
subsistence diversity and ubiquity were stated goals for this study.
