POLLEN ANALYSIS OF FEATURES FROM FOUR SITES ON GUAM

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings

Year: 1996

Summary

Pollen analysis was undertaken on five samples from four archaeological sites in the

Naval Activities Ordinance Annex. Several rivers run through this hilly area, and the sites

examined for pollen evidence are associated with the Maemong and Bonya Rivers. Pollen

analysis examined four sites to obtain information concerning prehistoric vegetation at the time

of occupation. All four sites exhibit at least some evidence of prehistoric occupation that ranges

in time from late Transitional Pre-Latte or early Latte (975-1259 AD) to late Latte (1440-1669

AD).
