POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT THREE SITES IN THE ASHLEY NATIONAL FOREST, UTAH

Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings; Kathryn Puseman

Year: 2000

Summary

Four features from three archaeological sites in the Ashley National Forest were examined

for pollen and/or macrofloral remains. Site 42DA669 is represented by pollen and macrofloral

records from a slab-lined basin estimated to represent Fremont occupation. Site 42DA791, a

Fremont site, is represented by two pollen samples and a single macrofloral sample from the

pithouse/brush structure that yielded a radiocarbon age of 1420 BP. Site 42DA534 yielded a pollen

and macrofloral record from a large hearth or fire pit dated 1050 BP. These analyses examine

evidence for food processing and resource use.
