POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS OF HEARTH/ROASTING PIT FILL FROM 48YE252
Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings; Kathryn Puseman
Year: 2000
Summary
Fill from an eroding hearth/roasting pit (Feature 1) on the south shore of Yellowstone Lake
(site 48YE252) in Yellowstone National Park was analyzed for pollen and macrofloral remains. A
calibrated radiocarbon date of 100 BC to AD 140 (8eta-150250) for Feature 1 and an abundance
of Pelican Lake artifacts at the site indicate a Late Archaic Pelican Lake occupation. Pollen and
macrofloral analyses will be used to provide information concerning fuel woods and possible plant
resources processed in the hearth.
