Summary
The floated light fractions of seven samples from five sites for the Elk Hills Project in
Kern County, southern California, were examined for macrofloral remains. One botanic sample
aIso was sent for identification. Identification of macrofloral remains will be used to provide
information concerning subsistence activities and possible seasonality, as well as to evaluate
the potential for obtaining this type of information from additional macrofloral samples. Three
chert flakes exhibiting wear patterns and polish were submitted for examination to determine if
the flakes were used.
