PROTEIN RESIDUE ANALYSIS OF PETRIFIED WOOD LITHIC ARTIFACTS FROM THE HILLTOP SITE, 5PA2332, SOUTH PARK, COLORADO
Author(s): Kathryn Puseman
Year: 2004
Summary
Thirteen lithic artifacts believed to exhibit residues were submitted for protein residue
analysis to confirm the presence of residues and possibly determine the nature of the residues.
These petrified wood artifacts were recovered from the Hilltop Site (5PA2332) as part of the
South Park Archaeological Project in central Colorado. Protein residues from an artifact's
surface can provide information concerning animal resources that were processed by the site
occupants.
