EXAMINATION OF BULK SOIL/DETRITAL CHARCOAL AND AMS RADIOCARBON ANALYSIS OF MATERIAL FROM ALONG THE UNCOMPAHGRE RIVER NEAR RIDGWAY, COLORADO
Author(s): Kathryn Puseman
Year: 2005
Summary
A total of nine bulk soil/detrital charcoal samples from along the Uncompahgre River
near Ridgway, Colorado, were floated to recover organic fragments suitable for radiocarbon
analysis. These samples were recovered from a sequence of four to five terraces above the
river. Botanic components and detrital charcoal were identified and potentially radiocarbon
datable material was separated. Charred material from three of the samples were AMS
radiocarbon dated, yielding conventional radiocarbon ages of 90 ± 15 BP (UR2-1), 510 ± 15 BP
(UR2-2), and 14,860 ± 35 BP (UR4-2).
