Summary

Fill and sandstone slabs from four hearths at site 48SW7456, a prehistoric camp, located in the central portion of the Greater Green River basin in Sweetwater County, Wyoming were submitted for organic residue analysis. Samples were tested for organic residues using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Organic residue analysis provides information concerning the compounds that were extracted from the fill and sandstone slabs and through matches with our reference library of raw and processed plants, information concerning foods that might have been processed in association with hearths at this site.
