Midbaer archaeofauna report 2
Part of the North Atlantic Biocultural Organization (NABO) project
Author(s): Thomas McGovern
Year: 2004
Summary
The site of Miðbær on the island of Flatey in Breiðafjörður, NW Iceland was test excavated by Thomas Amorosi and Thomas McGovern for the National Museum of Iceland in 1989, producing a column sample from a deeply stratified midden deposit. The initial faunal analysis conducted by Amorosi and McGovern revealed a dominant maritime component with high concentrations of bird, fish, and sea mammal bones. This paper both summarizes this unpublished analysis and adds a more detailed examination of the bird and fish remains.
