Archaeological Monitoring Report for Replace Military Family Housing Projects at Hickam Air Force Base and Bellows Air Force Station, Hawai’i
Author(s): Jeffrey L. Putzi; Thomas Dye
Year: 2005
Summary
At the request of Rim Architects, T. S. Dye and Colleagues, Archaeologists, Inc. conducted archaeological monitoring and sampling at military family housing areas at Bellows Air Force Station and at Hickam Air Force Base, O'ahu Island, Hawai'i. The primary focus of the project was the discovery and appropriate treatment of historic properties potentially affected by the family housing construction. Construction activities involved excavations to install new utilities and in some cases for new building foundations. Archaeological monitoring consisted of documenting all ground disturbing activities with detailed notes, photographs, and drawings depicting the stratigraphic deposition of sediments that were exposed by excavations. Test excavations were undertaken at sites 50-80-15-4856 and 4857 at Bellows Air Force Station in order to determine the extent and characterize sub-surface cultural deposits discovered during the archaeological monitoring.
