Summary

Results of a one week surface and subsurface archaeological reconnaissance survey are discussed. A subsurface gray sand archaeological layer was documented in portions of the proposed OMNI antenna project area at Bellows AFS. In situ deposits were found to occur in discontinuous remains in both the central portion of the cable trench area and the antenna pad area. Basalt debitage was quite dense in at least one part of the central cable trench area, suggesting a stone tool workshop area. The remains are described and analyzed, and there is a discussion of background investigations. Samples for dating the archaeological remains were not recovered. It is recommended that a program of archaeological data recovery be undertaken prior to the initiation of construction activities.
