Cultural Resources Survey of Electric Line Rights-of-way Along Germann and Kenworthy Roads East of Queen Creek, Pinal County, Arizona
Summary
This report presents the results of a Class III cultural resources survey of right-of-way easements for 12 kV distribution and 69 kV subtransmission lines that will extend to the west from the Dinosaur Substation, located east of the town of Queen Creek on the western side of the Central Arizona Project (CAP) canal in northern Pinal County, Arizona (Figure 1). Most of the surveyed property is on Arizona State Trust Land administered by the Arizona State Land Department (ASLD Right-of-Way Application No. 14-110785). The work was requested by Salt River Project (SRP) to determine if significant cultural resources were present within the rights-of-way that might be affected by construction of the electric lines. Kathleen Henderson, Ph.D., of Desert Archaeology, Inc., completed the survey on 10-11 April 2006, working under the authority of Arizona Antiquities Blanket Permit No. 2006- OOlbl (ASM Accession No. 2006-0278). Dr. Henderson also served as Principal Investigator for the project. Four isolated occurrences of cultural material were recorded by the survey, but no archaeological sites or other significant cultural resources were found. A recommendation is made that proposed construction of the 12 kV/69 kV electric lines will have no effect on significant cultural properties and that this work can proceed as planned.
