Kern River Pipeline Cultural Resources Inventory Report, Wyoming Segment: Volume 1

Editor(s): J. Simon Bruder; A.E. Rogge

Year: 1991

Summary

The Kern River Pipeline will carry natural gas from the overthrust belt in southwestern Wyoming to a point of interconnection with the proposed Mojave Pipeline near Daggett, California. From there the combined Mojave/Kern River pipeline will convey the gas to the southern San Joaquin Valley near Bakersfield, California. For purposes of regulatory compliance, including review under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), the Kern River project terminates at the point of interconnection near Daggett. The Mojave Pipeline Company is handling the cultural resource investigations for the combined portion of the route. Dames & Moore was retained by the Kern River Gas Transmission Company (KRGT) to conduct intensive cultural resource survey and limited archaeological testing of the entire Kern River route. This report covers the Wyoming portion of that route. The results of the survey in California, Nevada, and Utah are documented in separate reports. Fieldwork in Wyoming was conducted during July 1990. A supplemental survey for a 2.5-mile reroute at the beginning of the line was conducted on November 16. It is expected that additional survey and limited testing will be required for minor route adjustments as these are proposed. Accordingly, supplements to this basic survey report of the corridor will be produced from time to time. Personnel who participated in the survey of the Wyoming portion of the route are identified in Appendix A. A total of about 2300 person hours were spent in surveying, recording, and evaluating the sites.
