National Register Testing of Two Prehistoric Sites at Fort Sam Houston, Bexar County, Texas

Author(s): Patrick M. McLoughlin

Year: 2002

Summary

From March 18 to April 2, 2002, personnel from Prewitt and Associates, Inc., conducted National Register of Historic Places eligibility testing of two prehistoric sites located on Fort Sam Houston in Bexar County, Texas. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, sponsored the project as a result of the proposed plan to construct a fence across part of Fort Sam Houston near site 41BX1209. Site 41BX1407 would not be impacted by the fence but was included as part of this testing project since it was the only remaining site on the facility that required National Register testing.

Sites 41BX1209 and 41BX1407 are recommended as ineligible for National Register listing because they yielded moderately small and limited assemblages and are devoid of other cultural materials. Therefore, they lack the capacity to yield any important information.
