Archaeological Survey of Reclaimed Waterline from S. Old Bastrop HWY to York Creek Near Hunter, Texas

Author(s): Fred L. McGhee

Year: 2008

Summary

Fred L. McGhee & Associates (FLMA) archaeologists conducted an intensive survey for Alan Plummer Associates in support of the City of San Marcos’ installation of a twelve inch reclaimed waterline to the TXI facility near York Creek. Approximately 3.4 miles of pipeline are to be installed via trenching, with boring being conducted underneath IH-35 and two railroad lines.

The project is subject to state antiquities laws and is subject to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. Fieldwork was conducted and this report is written in compliance with Section 106.

The investigations were conducted in January 2008 and consisted of documentary research followed by pedestrian survey and systematic shovel testing. Twenty-five shovel tests were dug and screened, with the results photographed and catalogued. A major portion of the project area is located in previously disturbed environs that have been heavily impacted by previous facilities construction, utility installation, and land clearance, although parts of the project were conducted in heavily vegetated areas.

No archaeological sites were discovered and FLMA recommends that no further testing or monitoring be required.
