Historic Property Evaluation, BOMARC Facility & SAGE Building #1907, McGuire Air Force Base, NJ

Summary

The study is focused on identification and evaluation of the BOMARC Facility located at the northwest comer of Fort Dix, and SAGE (Building 1907), on McGuire AFB grounds, both of which were elements in the military defense systems developed during the Cold War era.

This report details the methods used in identifying and evaluating the BOMARC Facility and SAGE (Building 1907), the sources of data, descriptions of the properties, and evaluations against the National Register criteria. In addition, the report contains copies of site survey forms for each building and structure, or structure type, as well as a copy of the original operations manual for the BOMARC facility.

Both the BOMARC system and SAGE system meet the criteria for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places, and the Air Force criteria for significance detailed in the Interim Guidance for Treatment of Cold War Resources, as resources of exceptional importance. Both facilities at McGuire AFB were determined eligible for inclusion in the National Register by the New Jersey State Historic Preservation Officer in 1992, and by the Air Force.
