A Cultural Resource Survey of the Department of the Air Force Air Mobility Warfare Center Proposed Parking Lot Expansion, Fort Dix, New Hanover Township, Burlington County, New Jersey
Author(s): Dale L. Sadler
Year: 1998
Summary
The Department of the Air Force proposes to expand the Air Mobility Warfare Center existing parking lot located on the south side of building # 5656 at Fort Dix, New Hanover Township, Burlington County, New Jersey. A cultural resource survey was undertaken across the entire property in accordance to Pinelands Commission regulation 7:50-6.155(a).
The cultural resource survey comprised of both a review of historic and contemporary documentary and cartographic sources and subsurface testing on a grid pattern across the entire project area.
No architectural or archaeological resources of significance were discovered. However, seven historic archaeological loci were identified. All seven relate to the 19th century crossroads community of Pointville. No significant cultural resources were encountered during the survey. The seven ephemeral historic loci that were identified during the survey were judged to be insignificant resources incapable of yielding further significant information. Therefore, although all seven loci will be heavily impacted by the proposed construction no further archaeological fieldwork is recommended.
