Summary

On behalf of the New Jersey Army National Guard, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District contracted John Milner Associates, Inc. to complete Phase IB archeological surveys within four New Jersey Army National Guard facilities: Picatinny Army Aviation Support Facility #2, Lawrenceville Armory, Fort Dix Armory, and Vineland Armory. Surveys were completed in accordance with Section 106 of NHPA and the NJHPO guidelines for Phase I archeological survey.

A Phase I archeological survey sampled an 8.57-acre high sensitivity area and a 7.89-acre moderate sensitivity sections within the 44-acre Fort Dix Armory in New Hanover Township, Burlington County. In total, 169, 16-inch diameter shovel tests were completed at 50-foot intervals, of which 76 documented areas of disturbance. No archeological sites were identified, and no further survey recommended.
