National Register of Historic Places Inventory-Nomination Form: Ridgway-Oldrey House [Draft]
Author(s): Keith Buch
Year: 1980
Summary
This is the draft nomination form for the Ridgway-Oldrey House, Quarters 2 at Fort Dix. Quarters 2, built in 1841 and 1847, is one of two structures within the confines of Fort Dix, New Jersey, that predate construction of the installation and is among the oldest structures on the post. The driveway was originally the main road into World War I-era Camp Dix until until construction of the present traffic circle and road. The house is a five-bay 2½-story frame farmhouse with central entry, a one-bay side porch, a full-height perpendicular ell. The vernacular architecture of the house illustrates the "basic' house type characteristic of Burlington County in the mid-19th century and suggests the historic agricultural base of this area. The nomination form includes background research, photographs, and a topographic location map.
