English ceramics in the Mexican Pacific: notes from two port

Author(s): Mariana Piña

Year: 2018

Summary

This paper presents the analysis of English earthenware that has been recovered from two of the most important Mexican Pacific ports: Acapulco, in Guerrero, and San Blas, in Nayarit by the Underwater Archaeology Office of INAH Mexico.

It also presents a proposal for the distribution and routes of this material in the Pacific Ocean, relating to the information obtained from this project as well as those of other colleagues.

The context of this ceramic type in the Americas is intertwined with radical changes in the transport and geopolitical transformations.

This research contributes with new data to the commercial processes, trade and exchange observed in the nineteenth century, especially those that were conducted by sea.

This information helps us to understand trade processes between Europe and the American ports of the Pacific Ocean, as well as highlights certain aspects of daily life of the inhabitants of those regions.
