The Origins and Age of the Stone Wall (8M01446) site at Lignumvitae Key
Author(s): Michael (Mike) Wisenbaker
Year: 2017
Summary
Near the end of June in 2016, I traveled to the Florida Keys with Arie Larson, who acts as DEP's Division of State Lands (Office of Environmental Services) land management review coordinator. State agencies that manage lands covering 1,000 or more acres of property owned by the Florida Board of Trustees are mandated by law to undergo a land management review every five years. Although DHR lacks a specific statutory role in this process, we occasionally participate in some of these field reviews to get a better understanding as to how archaeological and historical resources are being managed on the ground at these properties. As part of the land management review process, each agency also is required to answer our Cultural Resources Questionnaire that should be completed and returned to us well before the land management field review occurs. Public Lands Archaeology responds to each questionnaire with comments, suggestions and, in some instances, corrections.
